Our Location

We’re located at 227 N Silver Street in downtown historic Lake City, one block west of Hwy 149, and directly facing the town park. Come enjoy the flowers and hummingbirds in our beautiful patio area, or treat yourself to a delicious dessert at our historic fountain bar. Everything on our menu is available for takeout.

Lake City is located in Southwest Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. In Hinsdale County, we have a year-round population of around 500 and over 95% of the land is public. Come enjoy a change of pace in the most remote county in the lower 48 states.

San Juan Soda is one of the few remaining classic soda fountains in the country. Take a step back in time with one of our old-fashioned drinks, enjoy a shake whipped up on our antique malt mixer, or treat yourself to one of our generous sundaes after a busy day of exploring the mountains.

We have a full menu of espresso drinks, serving Camp 4 coffee from Crested Butte, as well as over 30 flavors of ice cream, specially made for us by Ann and Mann's in Colorado Springs. Try an affogato, the delicious combination of espresso poured over any flavor ice cream, or be sure to save room for a heaping scoop on one of our homemade waffle cones!

Our Story

San Juan Soda Company has a long history. Our building was built in the 1870s as Lake City became a booming mountain town during silver mining days. Originally the town’s pharmacy, the building was first used as a soda fountain in the 1950s.

Since 1988, the Hartman family has owned and operated San Juan Soda Company. With the help of three children, and now twelve grandchildren, the Hartmans have poured their lives into serving delicious treats and offering unique gift items in this beautiful mountain town.

We've spent years curating a wide selection of gift items for your enjoyment. Most of our items are made in the USA, and a good number come from Colorado. Our hope is to go beyond the usual tourist town souvenirs, and that you'll find something truly special to remind you of your visit.
